Current Projects
ecoTruk is partnering with local, grassroots efforts within a few developing world communities. Our focus is upon empowering individuals and increasing their ability to be independent and self-sufficient through the use of the bicycle as a tool. Sustainable, community owned efforts are the goal.
ecoTruk is building bicycle infrastructure, including the distribution of spare parts and the provision of assembly and maintenance/repair education. An initiative called “Bike Shop in a Box” is a vehicle for achieving this priority. It is based upon the conversion of an ocean container (containing bicycles, parts, tools and accessories) into a secure “store front”. Additionally, other supportive components such as “Bike Bank” (a micro-finance scenario) and a partial scholarship program are being tested.
Zambia
Several trial projects are in process within Zambia. Based upon ecoTruk’s “Bike Shop in a Box” initiative, the associated “Bike Bank” and scholarship program, we are assisting several communities in the establishment of a small market in bicycles for village transport needs.
A second companion program, based upon a trade school initiative, is currently being developed.

Burkina Faso
The establishment of a trade school based distribution network is the primary goal of this project. This exciting project is situated outside of the capital city of Ouagadougou. It has the potential to reach several adjacent West African countries.
